- stuff to attract the sun.
- 00:03:44.203 --> 00:03:45.872

- the shark, waiting, I'm waiting, I'm waiting for the shark.
- 00:03:48.574 --> 00:03:53.880

- 00:03:53.880 --> 00:04:02.689
- that whine that every
- 00:04:02.689 --> 00:04:04.657
- fisherman loves, the reel begins to scream.
- 00:04:04.657 --> 00:04:08.528
- And sure enough, the big one had taken the stingrays.
- 00:04:08.528 --> 00:04:15.234
- The hook had sunk deep into the mouth of a bull shark.
- 00:04:15.234 --> 00:04:21.474
- Now, if you know anything about sharks, bull sharks are one of
- 00:04:21.474 --> 00:04:24.477
- the most dangerous sharks in the ocean.
- 00:04:24.477 --> 00:04:27.580

- 00:04:30.717 --> 00:04:32.085

- 00:04:50.937 --> 00:04:53.439

- and so we all helped reel in this bull shark.
- 00:05:06.085 --> 00:05:11.391
- My Mexican friends, my brother, my friends,
- 00:05:11.391 --> 00:05:16.362
- we reel the shark in, and the closer the shark got,
- 00:05:16.362 --> 00:05:19.232

- There was the dorsal fin.
- 00:05:22.368 --> 00:05:23.970
- There was the tail, kind of blood trickling
- 00:05:23.970 --> 00:05:26.339
- out of the shark's mouth.
- 00:05:26.339 --> 00:05:28.474

- 00:05:28.474 --> 00:05:29.942
- It was--it was-- it was unbelievable.
- 00:05:29.942 --> 00:05:32.779
- So, I'm thinking to myself, "Wow, if a shark is hooked, that
- 00:05:32.779 --> 00:05:36.416
- means the people around us could be in trouble because if a shark
- 00:05:36.416 --> 00:05:42.522
- is injured, a shark will latch onto anything,
- 00:05:42.522 --> 00:05:44.657
- especially a bull shark.
- 00:05:44.657 --> 00:05:47.126

- 00:05:47.126 --> 00:05:49.529
- out of the water!
- 00:05:49.529 --> 00:05:51.164
- Tell everybody to get out of the water!"
- 00:05:51.164 --> 00:05:53.232
- Well, my friends knew zero Spanish, my brother knew
- 00:05:53.232 --> 00:05:58.171
- a little bit of Spanish, and here's what Ben did,
- 00:05:58.171 --> 00:06:00.506
- "El sharko, el sharko."
- 00:06:00.506 --> 00:06:03.876
- Well, one of them saw that and it was like a scene
- 00:06:03.876 --> 00:06:07.346
- from the movie "Jaws."
- 00:06:07.346 --> 00:06:09.382
- People were just leaving the ocean, leaving their babies
- 00:06:09.382 --> 00:06:12.618
- out in the ocean.
- 00:06:12.618 --> 00:06:14.554
- People were in total and complete pandemonium.
- 00:06:14.554 --> 00:06:19.959
- We finally got the shark on the beach, hundreds and hundreds
- 00:06:19.959 --> 00:06:25.364
- of people were stopping, traffic was stopping to watch us
- 00:06:25.364 --> 00:06:29.735

- 00:06:29.735 --> 00:06:32.305
- I all of a sudden thought, "Wow, we could get arrested."
- 00:06:32.305 --> 00:06:37.477
- So, we quickly tied a rope around the shark's tail,
- 00:06:37.477 --> 00:06:40.613

- 00:06:40.613 --> 00:06:42.014
- I would not do this now, I wouldn't kill a shark.
- 00:06:42.014 --> 00:06:43.850
- But back in the day, you know, I didn't know what I was doing.
- 00:06:43.850 --> 00:06:46.085
- So, we pulled the shark up over the sea wall.
- 00:06:46.085 --> 00:06:49.088
- It took ten guys and we threw the shark in the back
- 00:06:49.088 --> 00:06:52.592

- 00:06:52.592 --> 00:06:54.460
- His tail was hanging out of the back.
- 00:06:54.460 --> 00:06:59.098
- And so, here we are, driving down 45 back to Houston.
- 00:06:59.098 --> 00:07:02.668
- People were like honk, honk, honk.
- 00:07:02.668 --> 00:07:06.439
- And when we got home, I hung the bull shark over our basketball
- 00:07:08.307 --> 00:07:12.512
- goal, and we got some pictures.
- 00:07:12.512 --> 00:07:17.517
- Well, after a while, the shark began to smell.
- 00:07:17.517 --> 00:07:21.787
- And dad said, "Son, you got to get rid of the shark."
- 00:07:21.787 --> 00:07:25.591
- So, I thought, "How do you get rid of a nice size bull shark?"
- 00:07:25.591 --> 00:07:28.995
- The shark weighed well over 100 pounds.
- 00:07:28.995 --> 00:07:31.097
- I wasn't going to ride back to Galveston, so I thought,
- 00:07:31.097 --> 00:07:34.166
- "I'll just find a lake or maybe like a little--
- 00:07:34.166 --> 00:07:37.069
- a little stream or somewhere.
- 00:07:37.069 --> 00:07:39.305
- I'll just dump the shark somewhere."
- 00:07:39.305 --> 00:07:41.274
- So, I drove around in the neighborhoods where family
- 00:07:41.274 --> 00:07:43.543
- lived, found a little creek, and I just--
- 00:07:43.543 --> 00:07:46.913
- I felt like I was getting rid of a body.
- 00:07:46.913 --> 00:07:48.848
- I just rolled the shark down into the creek, and that was
- 00:07:48.848 --> 00:07:55.688
- the last I saw of the shark.
- 00:07:55.688 --> 00:07:58.691
- I have thought, though, can you imagine little kids playing
- 00:07:58.691 --> 00:08:00.726
- in the creek, "Oh my gosh."
- 00:08:00.726 --> 00:08:04.430
- The smell? Ooh.
- 00:08:04.430 --> 00:08:06.766
- That is a fish story, my favorite fish story.
- 00:08:06.766 --> 00:08:09.835
- And once that happened, I was hooked literally
- 00:08:09.835 --> 00:08:17.176
- on shark fishing.
- 00:08:17.176 --> 00:08:18.711
- It's funny, you talk to anyone who's ever fished, anybody,
- 00:08:18.711 --> 00:08:22.582
- anybody, they have a fishing story.
- 00:08:22.582 --> 00:08:27.320
- Today, I want to talk to you about
- 00:08:27.320 --> 00:08:28.955
- the ultimate fishing story.
- 00:08:28.955 --> 00:08:31.257
- I would argue that your life, my life is a fishing trip.
- 00:08:31.257 --> 00:08:37.797
- Your life, my life is a fishing trip.
- 00:08:37.797 --> 00:08:41.367
- And because it's a fishing trip, we should have fishing stories.
- 00:08:41.367 --> 00:08:48.608
- If you have your Bibles, turn to the book of Luke, the Gospel
- 00:08:48.608 --> 00:08:51.377
- of Luke, Luke chapter 5.
- 00:08:51.377 --> 00:08:53.713
- And we're going to look at verses 1 through 11.
- 00:08:53.713 --> 00:08:58.084
- Jesus was preaching to a bunch of people on the shores
- 00:08:58.084 --> 00:09:05.691
- of the Sea of Galilee.
- 00:09:05.691 --> 00:09:07.393
- The Sea of Galilee was 13 miles long, 8 miles wide.
- 00:09:07.393 --> 00:09:11.864
- Thirty towns were on the Sea of Galilee.
- 00:09:11.864 --> 00:09:15.868
- Jesus is talking to people.
- 00:09:15.868 --> 00:09:18.938
- So many people are there, so many people are pressing in,
- 00:09:18.938 --> 00:09:23.976
- he thinks to himself, "Well, I need to improvise."
- 00:09:23.976 --> 00:09:28.447
- So, Jesus improvises.
- 00:09:28.447 --> 00:09:31.517
- Jesus does something very, very interesting.
- 00:09:31.517 --> 00:09:36.589
- Let's read together Luke chapter 5, verse 1.
- 00:09:36.589 --> 00:09:38.658
- "One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the sea
- 00:09:38.658 --> 00:09:42.028
- of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen
- 00:09:42.028 --> 00:09:45.431
- to the Word of God.
- 00:09:45.431 --> 00:09:47.366
- He," let's say it together, one, two, three, "noticed."
- 00:09:47.366 --> 00:09:51.704

- 00:09:51.704 --> 00:09:55.174
- fishermen had left them and were washing their nets."
- 00:09:55.174 --> 00:10:00.046
- Washing their nets.
- 00:10:00.046 --> 00:10:02.348
- They had bageled, they had been skunked.
- 00:10:02.348 --> 00:10:06.952
- They had fished all night and hadn't caught jack.
- 00:10:06.952 --> 00:10:11.057
- They were mad. Hadn't caught a fish.
- 00:10:11.057 --> 00:10:14.493
- They were mending their nets.
- 00:10:14.493 --> 00:10:16.095
- As you study ancient fishermen they spent the lion's share of
- 00:10:16.095 --> 00:10:20.032
- their time mending these nets.
- 00:10:20.032 --> 00:10:22.635
- These nets were large, they had weights around the edges.
- 00:10:22.635 --> 00:10:26.739
- You would throw the nets over fish,
- 00:10:26.739 --> 00:10:30.109
- the weights would sink around the fish,
- 00:10:30.109 --> 00:10:32.378
- they would pull the rope, and you would catch the fish.
- 00:10:32.378 --> 00:10:37.083
- When they fished at the sea of Galilee, they fished at night.
- 00:10:37.083 --> 00:10:41.921
- The fish would swim in the shallows at night,
- 00:10:41.921 --> 00:10:44.190
- they were dumb at night.
- 00:10:44.190 --> 00:10:46.959
- They would catch them at night.
- 00:10:46.959 --> 00:10:48.861
- No one would even think about, no great fisherman would even
- 00:10:48.861 --> 00:10:52.832
- entertain the thought of fishing during the day.
- 00:10:52.832 --> 00:10:56.368
- During the day, the fish are deep, the nets
- 00:10:56.368 --> 00:10:59.205
- won't reach that deep.
- 00:10:59.205 --> 00:11:00.840
- No one would fish in the middle of the day.
- 00:11:00.840 --> 00:11:04.543
- Oh, really?
- 00:11:04.543 --> 00:11:06.479
- But notice the craft, say craft with me.
- 00:11:06.479 --> 00:11:10.516
- Craft, I'm talking about the boat.
- 00:11:10.516 --> 00:11:12.585
- "So he noticed," he being Jesus, "a couple of boats at the
- 00:11:12.585 --> 00:11:15.554
- water's edge where the fishermen had left them
- 00:11:15.554 --> 00:11:17.757
- and were washing their nets.
- 00:11:17.757 --> 00:11:20.960
- Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner."
- 00:11:20.960 --> 00:11:27.967
- Simon Peter owned this thriving fishing business.
- 00:11:27.967 --> 00:11:31.537
- "He said, 'Simon, push it out into the water,' so he sat in
- 00:11:31.537 --> 00:11:34.673
- the boat and taught the crowds from there."
- 00:11:34.673 --> 00:11:39.712
- I like, too, that he noticed something that was common,
- 00:11:39.712 --> 00:11:42.848
- just a boat.
- 00:11:42.848 --> 00:11:44.350
- He noticed a boat, and that boat became his pulpit.
- 00:11:44.350 --> 00:11:49.355
- What in your life is ordinary that Jesus wants to turn
- 00:11:49.355 --> 00:11:56.362
- into something extraordinary?
- 00:11:56.362 --> 00:11:58.798
- What in your life is commonplace, is pedestrian
- 00:11:58.798 --> 00:12:01.901
- that Jesus wants to turn into a pulpit?
- 00:12:01.901 --> 00:12:04.904
- What interest do you have?
- 00:12:04.904 --> 00:12:07.673
- What slant do you have?
- 00:12:07.673 --> 00:12:12.344
- What hobby do you have?
- 00:12:12.344 --> 00:12:15.147
- What platform do you have that Jesus wants
- 00:12:15.147 --> 00:12:18.217
- to turn into a pulpit?
- 00:12:18.217 --> 00:12:20.653
- It's time that we notice, like Jesus did, because there
- 00:12:20.653 --> 00:12:24.757
- are three groups of people here.
- 00:12:24.757 --> 00:12:27.359
- The first group will be those who are not believers.
- 00:12:27.359 --> 00:12:30.162
- We have many people, Fellowship, who come each and every weekend
- 00:12:30.162 --> 00:12:33.799
- who have never stepped over the line.
- 00:12:33.799 --> 00:12:35.768
- You're not a follower of Christ.
- 00:12:35.768 --> 00:12:37.636
- You're welcome, and this is a great series for you to listen
- 00:12:37.636 --> 00:12:40.539
- to, a great message for you to listen to, a great weekend for
- 00:12:40.539 --> 00:12:43.776
- you to attend because you're going to see, number one,
- 00:12:43.776 --> 00:12:46.312
- how much you matter to God.
- 00:12:46.312 --> 00:12:48.113
- Number two, how much you matter to us because you were on our
- 00:12:48.113 --> 00:12:53.452
- minds when we planned this experience.
- 00:12:53.452 --> 00:12:58.490
- The second group of people will be those here who are believers.
- 00:12:58.490 --> 00:13:02.828
- You're a brand-new believer, and maybe, just maybe you've stepped
- 00:13:02.828 --> 00:13:06.665
- over the line, but you've never, ever, ever gone fishing for
- 00:13:06.665 --> 00:13:11.704
- people who don't know the Lord.
- 00:13:11.704 --> 00:13:14.173
- You've never, ever shared your fishing story with others.
- 00:13:14.173 --> 00:13:18.844
- You've never said, "Hey, here was my life before I met Christ.
- 00:13:18.844 --> 00:13:23.883
- Here's how I took the bait, Jesus.
- 00:13:23.883 --> 00:13:27.152
- I was hooked by the Spirit of God and brought into the church.
- 00:13:27.152 --> 00:13:31.857
- I was caught and released into ministry."
- 00:13:31.857 --> 00:13:34.526
- You have never really done that.
- 00:13:34.526 --> 00:13:37.563
- I know some of you are that way.
- 00:13:37.563 --> 00:13:40.499
- Others here are people, you're believers, you're a follower
- 00:13:40.499 --> 00:13:45.738
- of Christ, and you are sharing your fishing story.
- 00:13:45.738 --> 00:13:50.276
- It's amazing how those of us who fish like
- 00:13:50.276 --> 00:13:53.712
- to share fishing stories.
- 00:13:53.712 --> 00:13:55.814
- Yet those of us who've been caught by the grace of God,
- 00:13:55.814 --> 00:13:59.385
- those of us who've been hooked by the Holy Spirit, those of us
- 00:13:59.385 --> 00:14:03.122
- who've taken the bait, rarely, rarely do we really go fishing.
- 00:14:03.122 --> 00:14:11.630
- We talk about fishing, we buy fishing gear, we sing fishing
- 00:14:11.630 --> 00:14:16.835
- songs, we go to these beautiful aquariums, and this one is
- 00:14:16.835 --> 00:14:20.973
- as big as Sea World.
- 00:14:20.973 --> 00:14:23.409
- Rarely, though, do we fish.
- 00:14:23.409 --> 00:14:27.579
- So, this is a wakeup call in all of our lives.
- 00:14:27.579 --> 00:14:30.683
- So, notice the craft.
- 00:14:30.683 --> 00:14:32.618
- What would happen if Jesus walked
- 00:14:32.618 --> 00:14:34.920
- into your craft, into your boat?
- 00:14:34.920 --> 00:14:37.623
- What would happen?
- 00:14:37.623 --> 00:14:39.224
- Whenever you fish and you fish with a guide, there's a rule.
- 00:14:39.224 --> 00:14:43.028
- Never guide the guide.
- 00:14:43.028 --> 00:14:45.931
- Yet Jesus here is going to flip the script.
- 00:14:45.931 --> 00:14:49.735
- He's going to guide the guide.
- 00:14:49.735 --> 00:14:52.104
- Simon Peter is an old salt.
- 00:14:52.104 --> 00:14:54.640
- He's a fishing hawk.
- 00:14:54.640 --> 00:14:56.909
- And Jesus, this carpenter, hammer and nails, and finish
- 00:14:56.909 --> 00:15:01.447
- out, and foundation work, fixer upper, that's what Jesus knew.
- 00:15:01.447 --> 00:15:07.019
- And now Jesus is going to talk to Simon about fishing?
- 00:15:07.019 --> 00:15:13.926
- What?
- 00:15:13.926 --> 00:15:15.494
- Say that with me kind of high, "What?"
- 00:15:15.494 --> 00:15:17.896
- Yeah, that's what I thought, 'cause that's what I thought
- 00:15:17.896 --> 00:15:19.598
- when I was reading this.
- 00:15:19.598 --> 00:15:21.500
- Luke chapter 5, verse 4, "When he finished speaking,"
- 00:15:21.500 --> 00:15:24.636
- the sermon was done, I love this, "he said to Simon, 'Now,'"
- 00:15:24.636 --> 00:15:31.777
- let's say it together, one, two, three, "go out."
- 00:15:31.777 --> 00:15:35.481
- Say it again, "Go out."
- 00:15:35.481 --> 00:15:37.683
- He said, that's the first command,
- 00:15:37.683 --> 00:15:39.218
- "Go out where it is deeper.
- 00:15:39.218 --> 00:15:42.721
- Go out, Simon," this is Jesus the carpenter telling the guy,
- 00:15:42.721 --> 00:15:47.893
- "Go out where it is deeper."
- 00:15:47.893 --> 00:15:51.697
- Do you want to go deep?
- 00:15:51.697 --> 00:15:53.565
- Go out into the deep.
- 00:15:53.565 --> 00:15:55.601
- The second command, "Let down."
- 00:15:55.601 --> 00:15:59.338
- Jesus said, "Go out, Simon."
- 00:15:59.338 --> 00:16:01.607
- And now, "Let down."
- 00:16:01.607 --> 00:16:03.442
- Say "Let down," with me.
- 00:16:03.442 --> 00:16:04.943
- Let down, that means let down the nets.
- 00:16:04.943 --> 00:16:07.212
- And don't you know Simon was like,
- 00:16:07.212 --> 00:16:09.048
- "You've got to be kidding me.
- 00:16:09.048 --> 00:16:11.350
- I've cleaned these nets, we've been working all night, all the
- 00:16:11.350 --> 00:16:15.020
- seaweed and all the other junk is out of the nets.
- 00:16:15.020 --> 00:16:19.391
- All the beer cans, we've thrown them out, and now you're asking
- 00:16:19.391 --> 00:16:22.728
- me, Jesus, to lower the nets again in the middle of the day?
- 00:16:22.728 --> 00:16:28.834
- It's 100 degrees.
- 00:16:28.834 --> 00:16:30.536
- The nets don't go that deep.
- 00:16:30.536 --> 00:16:32.137
- We're not going to catch a fish."
- 00:16:32.137 --> 00:16:34.239
- That's what he was thinking.
- 00:16:34.239 --> 00:16:36.308
- I know it because Simon Peter was rude and crude
- 00:16:36.308 --> 00:16:39.611
- and socially unacceptable.
- 00:16:39.611 --> 00:16:42.114
- Foul-mouthed, uneducated.
- 00:16:42.114 --> 00:16:45.317
- Yet, that's who Jesus picked as his inner circle.
- 00:16:45.317 --> 00:16:48.554
- Why fishermen?
- 00:16:48.554 --> 00:16:50.889
- Because they're purposeful.
- 00:16:50.889 --> 00:16:52.758
- Why fishermen?
- 00:16:52.758 --> 00:16:54.259
- Because they're patient.
- 00:16:54.259 --> 00:16:55.828
- Why fishermen?
- 00:16:55.828 --> 00:16:57.362
- Because they're passionate.
- 00:16:57.362 --> 00:16:59.765
- When he finished speaking, two commands,
- 00:17:02.267 --> 00:17:04.436
- "Go out and let down your nets to catch some fish."
- 00:17:04.436 --> 00:17:09.675
- That's what Jesus is telling you and me.
- 00:17:09.675 --> 00:17:11.376
- If you're a Christ follower, go out.
- 00:17:11.376 --> 00:17:15.114
- You want to go deep?
- 00:17:15.114 --> 00:17:17.149
- I mean, you want to go deep?
- 00:17:17.149 --> 00:17:19.418
- It's right here, go out.
- 00:17:19.418 --> 00:17:21.553
- And don't just go out and work on your spiritual tan
- 00:17:21.553 --> 00:17:24.957
- with Hawaiian Tropic.
- 00:17:24.957 --> 00:17:28.026
- Drop the nets.
- 00:17:28.026 --> 00:17:30.262
- Go out, drop the nets.
- 00:17:30.262 --> 00:17:34.766
- Go out and drop the nets.
- 00:17:34.766 --> 00:17:38.270
- Go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:38.270 --> 00:17:40.939
- In the highways and byways, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:40.939 --> 00:17:44.576
- In your neighborhood, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:44.576 --> 00:17:47.346
- On the soccer team, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:47.346 --> 00:17:50.349
- In your school, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:50.349 --> 00:17:53.452
- In the corporation, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:53.452 --> 00:17:57.022
- In the firm, go out where the fish are.
- 00:17:57.022 --> 00:17:59.591
- In the hospital, go deep, but don't just go deep,
- 00:17:59.591 --> 00:18:04.863
- drop the nets.
- 00:18:04.863 --> 00:18:08.167
- So, I love the excuse.
- 00:18:08.767 --> 00:18:10.202
- "We worked hard all last night, Lord."
- 00:18:10.202 --> 00:18:12.437
- Look at him in verse 5, "We didn't catch a thing,
- 00:18:12.437 --> 00:18:15.174
- but if you say so," read here doubt.
- 00:18:15.174 --> 00:18:18.177
- Read here like, "You've got to be joking."
- 00:18:18.177 --> 00:18:21.013
- Don't you love it that Jesus can use you and me
- 00:18:21.013 --> 00:18:23.182
- even in our doubts?
- 00:18:23.182 --> 00:18:26.652
- "If you say so, I'll let the nets down again.
- 00:18:26.652 --> 00:18:32.624
- I'll let the nets down again.
- 00:18:32.624 --> 00:18:35.694
- If you say so, I'll let the nets down again."
- 00:18:35.694 --> 00:18:38.730
- He did, so he got the craft, the conversation.
- 00:18:38.730 --> 00:18:42.000
- Look at the catch, a world record catch.
- 00:18:42.000 --> 00:18:45.637
- In the middle of the day, the nets wouldn't reach the deep,
- 00:18:45.637 --> 00:18:49.274
- they dropped the nets, and look at this fish story.
- 00:18:49.274 --> 00:18:52.811
- This is crazy, isn't it?
- 00:18:52.811 --> 00:18:54.846
- Luke 5, verse 6, "And this time their nets were so--"
- 00:18:54.846 --> 00:18:58.250
- say it with me--
- 00:18:58.250 --> 00:18:59.751
- "full of fish they began to tear."
- 00:18:59.751 --> 00:19:03.222
- They shouted for help.
- 00:19:03.222 --> 00:19:05.457
- He shouted for his--for his associates to come in.
- 00:19:05.457 --> 00:19:08.927
- Another boat helped him.
- 00:19:08.927 --> 00:19:10.862
- Both boats began to sink because of so many fish.
- 00:19:10.862 --> 00:19:15.901
- I love it that Jesus is interested
- 00:19:15.901 --> 00:19:18.870
- in our daily activities.
- 00:19:18.870 --> 00:19:21.540
- So, those of us who are Christ followers, our lives
- 00:19:21.540 --> 00:19:26.211
- should be a fishing trip.
- 00:19:26.211 --> 00:19:28.614
- And if we're doing what Jesus wants us to do, we're going out
- 00:19:28.614 --> 00:19:32.150
- into the deep, dropping our nets, and Jesus says,
- 00:19:32.150 --> 00:19:37.589
- "You fish, I'll catch."
- 00:19:37.589 --> 00:19:42.094
- What a deal.
- 00:19:42.094 --> 00:19:43.662
- "You fish, I'll do the catching."
- 00:19:43.662 --> 00:19:49.268
- This was the second call that Jesus made, the second time
- 00:19:49.268 --> 00:19:54.006
- he had tapped these guys on the shoulder.
- 00:19:54.006 --> 00:19:55.941
- This is not their first calling.
- 00:19:55.941 --> 00:19:58.744
- He's calling you, he's calling me, it's a command,
- 00:19:58.744 --> 00:20:00.612
- it's not an option.
- 00:20:00.612 --> 00:20:02.648
- "Go," Jesus said.
- 00:20:02.648 --> 00:20:04.583
- Matthew 28, "Go."
- 00:20:04.583 --> 00:20:06.485
- What part of go don't we get?
- 00:20:06.485 --> 00:20:08.654
- "Go out into the deep and let your nets down."
- 00:20:08.654 --> 00:20:14.893
- "Well, Ed, I just want to live as an example, man.
- 00:20:14.893 --> 00:20:17.629
- If I live the Christian life as an example,
- 00:20:17.629 --> 00:20:19.931
- people will see me and--"
- 00:20:19.931 --> 00:20:21.833
- Example?
- 00:20:21.833 --> 00:20:23.669
- What if Jesus has said that?
- 00:20:23.669 --> 00:20:25.237
- "I'm just going to be an example.
- 00:20:25.237 --> 00:20:26.772
- No words, just an example."
- 00:20:26.772 --> 00:20:30.709
- Jesus used words.
- 00:20:30.709 --> 00:20:33.478
- We've got to use words.
- 00:20:33.478 --> 00:20:35.480
- Obviously, we live our lives as an example.
- 00:20:35.480 --> 00:20:39.084
- But if you're a believer, you've got a fish story.
- 00:20:39.084 --> 00:20:42.087
- I was swimming in this body of water, I was lost.
- 00:20:42.087 --> 00:20:45.791
- I ate the bait, Jesus on the hook.
- 00:20:45.791 --> 00:20:48.527
- I was hooked by the Holy Spirit of God.
- 00:20:48.527 --> 00:20:50.529
- Here's what's happened in my life when I was caught.
- 00:20:50.529 --> 00:20:54.933
- Now, I've been caught, captured by the grace.
- 00:20:54.933 --> 00:20:59.104
- I've been released by God into the greatest life possible.
- 00:20:59.104 --> 00:21:04.109
- Share that.
- 00:21:04.109 --> 00:21:06.912
- Talk to others about that.
- 00:21:06.912 --> 00:21:11.016
- Pray for people in your life.
- 00:21:11.016 --> 00:21:14.753
- There is nothing like being used by God, nothing.
- 00:21:14.753 --> 00:21:19.057
- There's no high, there's no buzz, there's no trip, there's
- 00:21:19.057 --> 00:21:21.626
- no deal, there's no amount of money that compares
- 00:21:21.626 --> 00:21:24.463
- to being used by God to save souls.
- 00:21:24.463 --> 00:21:30.035
- There's no business like soul business.
- 00:21:30.035 --> 00:21:33.739
- I've gone to New Zealand, I've gone to Australia, I've gone
- 00:21:33.739 --> 00:21:36.641
- to Asia, I've gone to Europe, I've gone to Africa,
- 00:21:36.641 --> 00:21:40.412
- I've gone all over the country.
- 00:21:40.412 --> 00:21:42.314
- Take me out of it, I have never seen a church like Fellowship.
- 00:21:42.314 --> 00:21:48.453
- And for the life of me, I cannot believe how so many of you who
- 00:21:48.453 --> 00:21:55.193
- call yourselves Christians don't regularly invite people, your
- 00:21:55.193 --> 00:21:59.731
- friends who are going to hell, here to Fellowship.
- 00:21:59.731 --> 00:22:04.369
- Because one day when you clock out, God's going to look at you
- 00:22:04.369 --> 00:22:08.373
- and say, "Man, your life was a fishing trip.
- 00:22:08.373 --> 00:22:10.809
- Tell me about the fish that you caught."
- 00:22:10.809 --> 00:22:15.914
- Because if you're not concerned about your neighbor's salvation,
- 00:22:15.914 --> 00:22:20.986
- quite frankly I'm concerned about yours.
- 00:22:20.986 --> 00:22:26.391
- If you don't have a heart for people coming to know Jesus,
- 00:22:26.391 --> 00:22:29.694
- there's a great chance you're not a believer.
- 00:22:29.694 --> 00:22:36.435
- These are hard words, tough words.
- 00:22:36.435 --> 00:22:43.041
- Fishermen are tough.
- 00:22:43.041 --> 00:22:46.011
- For 25 years, this deal has been tough.
- 00:22:46.011 --> 00:22:51.917
- We'll get up in your grill and challenge you because the
- 00:22:51.917 --> 00:22:55.454
- beginning and end of discipleship is evangelism.
- 00:22:55.454 --> 00:23:00.525
- You don't become a disciple until you get saved.
- 00:23:00.525 --> 00:23:03.995
- And then once you become a disciple, you go deep
- 00:23:03.995 --> 00:23:06.998
- and you do what?
- 00:23:06.998 --> 00:23:08.633
- Put down your nets.
- 00:23:08.633 --> 00:23:13.605
- Any fishing stories?
- 00:23:13.605 --> 00:23:18.810
- Jesus replied to Simon, "Don't be afraid.
- 00:23:18.810 --> 00:23:21.980
- From now on, you'll be fishing for people."
- 00:23:21.980 --> 00:23:25.050
- This word "fishing for people," zogreo in the original language,
- 00:23:25.050 --> 00:23:28.987
- means to take alive.
- 00:23:28.987 --> 00:23:30.755
- It's kind of paradoxical.
- 00:23:30.755 --> 00:23:32.524
- When we fish, we take fish from life to death.
- 00:23:32.524 --> 00:23:35.961
- When we fish for men, we take men from death to life.
- 00:23:35.961 --> 00:23:43.602
- "As soon as they landed, they left everything
- 00:23:43.602 --> 00:23:47.005
- and followed Jesus."
- 00:23:47.005 --> 00:23:50.542
- John 6:44, what did Jesus say?
- 00:23:50.542 --> 00:23:52.944
- "No one can come to me unless the Father
- 00:23:52.944 --> 00:23:55.080
- who sent me draws him."
- 00:23:55.080 --> 00:23:59.518
- We've got to draw the net.
- 00:23:59.518 --> 00:24:01.786
- Everything we do in Fellowship has a hook in it.
- 00:24:01.786 --> 00:24:04.756
- What's the bait?
- 00:24:04.756 --> 00:24:06.258
- Jesus.
- 00:24:06.258 --> 00:24:07.859
- And so often, people don't even know they need Jesus until they
- 00:24:07.859 --> 00:24:10.962
- understand who he is, and then, "Whoa, I need Jesus."
- 00:24:10.962 --> 00:24:20.539
- Two of the most embarrassing questions I could ask you,
- 00:24:20.539 --> 00:24:25.310
- I'm talking to Christians now, are these two questions.
- 00:24:25.310 --> 00:24:28.179
- A great theologian asked these questions a long time ago.
- 00:24:28.179 --> 00:24:33.518
- Number one, who was the last person you led to Jesus?
- 00:24:33.518 --> 00:24:39.791
- Number two, when was the last time you tried?
- 00:24:39.791 --> 00:24:46.164
- What would happen, what would happen
- 00:24:50.001 --> 00:24:54.739
- if we became fishers of men?
- 00:24:54.739 --> 00:24:59.411
- What would happen?
- 00:24:59.411 --> 00:25:01.846
- What would happen?
- 00:25:01.913 --> 00:25:03.348
- So, it's time for us to go out, go deep, and put the net down.
- 00:25:03.348 --> 00:25:12.857
- Are you hooked?
- 00:25:12.857 --> 00:25:14.993
- I said are you hooked?
- 00:25:14.993 --> 00:25:16.928
- I'm glad I'm hooked by the grace of God.
- 00:25:16.928 --> 00:25:20.165
- I'm glad I'm saved.
- 00:25:20.165 --> 00:25:22.000
- I'm glad I'm rescued.
- 00:25:22.000 --> 00:25:23.635
- I'm glad I'm transformed.
- 00:25:23.635 --> 00:25:25.503
- I'm glad I'm justified.
- 00:25:25.503 --> 00:25:27.172
- I'm glad I'm sanctified.
- 00:25:27.172 --> 00:25:28.840
- I'm glad I listened to Jesus.
- 00:25:28.840 --> 00:25:31.142
- I'm glad I've lived for him.
- 00:25:31.142 --> 00:25:33.078
- I'm glad I'm following his command.
- 00:25:33.078 --> 00:25:35.080
- I am glad that I am hooked, I'm hooked.
- 00:25:35.080 --> 00:25:41.052
- Let's pray together.
- 00:25:41.052 --> 00:25:42.420
- Every head is bowed and every eye is closed,
- 00:25:42.420 --> 00:25:43.822
- everyone standing.
- 00:25:43.822 --> 00:25:45.156
- If you've never, ever, ever given your life to Jesus,
- 00:25:45.156 --> 00:25:47.392
- he is the bait.
- 00:25:47.392 --> 00:25:49.060
- Just say, "Jesus, I give my life to you."
- 00:25:49.060 --> 00:25:51.563
- That's all you got to say, "Jesus, I give my life to you.
- 00:25:51.563 --> 00:25:54.566
- I admit to you I'm a sinner.
- 00:25:54.566 --> 00:25:56.334
- I give everything to you.
- 00:25:56.334 --> 00:26:00.138
- I bow before you.
- 00:26:00.138 --> 00:26:01.706
- Like Simon did, I bow before you.
- 00:26:01.706 --> 00:26:04.442
- I give it all to you."
- 00:26:04.442 --> 00:26:06.611
- If you said that prayer, that's the greatest prayer
- 00:26:06.611 --> 00:26:08.880
- you'll ever pray.
- 00:26:08.880 --> 00:26:10.248
- You're hooked and you can never get off the hook.
- 00:26:10.248 --> 00:26:12.784
- announcer: To watch an extended version of today's message

- what we're learning here and apply it out there where you

- work, where you live, where you do life
- 00:26:30.935 --> 00:26:34.272

- discover God's purpose and plan for their lives.
- 00:27:17.682 --> 00:27:21.086
- This is Ed Young Television.

- and your faithful prayers and gifts.
