  • because the lion's right off the road,
  • 00:00:02.070 --> 00:00:03.090
  • because here's what the Bible tells us:
  • 00:00:03.120 --> 00:00:05.100
  • you would better beware, because your adversary
  • 00:00:05.130 --> 00:00:08.030
  • is like a roaring lion, roaming about seeking
  • 00:00:08.060 --> 00:00:11.020
  • whom he may devour.
  • 00:00:11.050 --> 00:00:13.000
  • He's right off the road, but he can't get on the road.
  • 00:00:13.030 --> 00:00:15.260
  • 00:00:15.290 --> 00:00:30.220
  • ROBERT: So, we're finishing up a series
  • 00:00:30.250 --> 00:00:33.030
  • this weekend called, "A Way in the Wilderness",
  • 00:00:33.060 --> 00:00:36.230
  • Isaiah 35 is where we've been, we've already gone through
  • 00:00:36.260 --> 00:00:39.200
  • the first seven verses.
  • 00:00:39.230 --> 00:00:41.110
  • If you want to turn to that, we'll now go through
  • 00:00:41.140 --> 00:00:43.120
  • the last three verses, 8, 9, and 10,
  • 00:00:43.150 --> 00:00:46.040
  • and talk about how the Messiah fulfilled this.
  • 00:00:46.070 --> 00:00:48.190
  • So, this week the title of the message is "Streets".
  • 00:00:48.220 --> 00:00:51.230
  • So, I did this because all of them begin with "S"
  • 00:00:51.260 --> 00:00:54.260
  • that way, you can remember them.
  • 00:00:54.290 --> 00:00:57.010
  • You know, I've said that before to my wife and she said,
  • 00:00:57.040 --> 00:00:59.120
  • "You know, that doesn't help me at all."
  • 00:00:59.150 --> 00:01:01.110
  • But, "Strength", "Signs", "Streams",
  • 00:01:01.140 --> 00:01:07.120
  • and "Streets", alright?
  • 00:01:07.150 --> 00:01:09.120
  • So, Isaiah 35:8-10, "A highway shall be there,
  • 00:01:09.150 --> 00:01:15.160
  • and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.
  • 00:01:15.190 --> 00:01:20.150
  • The unclean shall not pass over it,
  • 00:01:20.180 --> 00:01:22.250
  • but it shall be for others.
  • 00:01:22.280 --> 00:01:24.110
  • Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray.
  • 00:01:24.140 --> 00:01:28.200
  • No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast
  • 00:01:28.230 --> 00:01:34.060
  • go up on it; it shall not be found there.
  • 00:01:34.090 --> 00:01:37.100
  • But the redeemed shall walk there,
  • 00:01:37.130 --> 00:01:40.050
  • and the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
  • 00:01:40.080 --> 00:01:43.070
  • and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy
  • 00:01:43.100 --> 00:01:46.260
  • on their heads.
  • 00:01:46.290 --> 00:01:47.220
  • They shall obtain joy and gladness,
  • 00:01:47.250 --> 00:01:50.140
  • and sorrow and sighing shall flee away."
  • 00:01:50.170 --> 00:01:53.170
  • So, here's three things about this street in the wilderness.
  • 00:01:53.200 --> 00:01:57.170
  • Number one, it's a street of grace.
  • 00:01:57.200 --> 00:02:01.190
  • Now, this may be different than the way you thought
  • 00:02:01.220 --> 00:02:03.280
  • I was going to take it, because when I first read this
  • 00:02:04.010 --> 00:02:08.290
  • about a Highway of Holiness and the unclean can't walk there,
  • 00:02:09.020 --> 00:02:16.020
  • I actually felt condemnation.
  • 00:02:16.050 --> 00:02:18.190
  • Now, let me explain that to you. That's not God.
  • 00:02:18.220 --> 00:02:22.140
  • And yet, sometimes when we read the Bible,
  • 00:02:22.170 --> 00:02:25.110
  • the enemy's attacking us.
  • 00:02:25.140 --> 00:02:28.040
  • Think about that: when Jesus is fasting and praying,
  • 00:02:28.070 --> 00:02:31.120
  • Satan's attacking Him.
  • 00:02:31.150 --> 00:02:33.170
  • So when you feel condemnation, that is not from the Lord,
  • 00:02:33.200 --> 00:02:38.110
  • because there is no condemnation
  • 00:02:38.140 --> 00:02:41.110
  • for those who are in Christ Jesus.
  • 00:02:41.140 --> 00:02:43.110
  • And Jesus said I didn't come into the world
  • 00:02:43.140 --> 00:02:44.260
  • to condemn the world, but to save the world.
  • 00:02:44.290 --> 00:02:47.190
  • So, I knew this was from the enemy,
  • 00:02:47.220 --> 00:02:51.130
  • but there's something there
  • 00:02:51.160 --> 00:02:53.070
  • and so I read it again, but let me just show you.
  • 00:02:53.100 --> 00:02:55.090
  • This is the way I was reading it,
  • 00:02:55.120 --> 00:02:56.180
  • this is Verse 8 again, says, "A highway shall be there,
  • 00:02:56.210 --> 00:02:59.090
  • and a road, it shall be called the Highway of Holiness."
  • 00:02:59.120 --> 00:03:02.110
  • Well, as soon as I saw the word "holiness",
  • 00:03:02.140 --> 00:03:04.100
  • I thought, uh-oh, I'm in trouble.
  • 00:03:04.130 --> 00:03:06.180
  • And then it said, "The unclean shall not pass over it,"
  • 00:03:06.210 --> 00:03:09.250
  • and I thought, yeah, that's me, talking about me again.
  • 00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:12.140
  • And then it said, "But it shall be for others,"
  • 00:03:12.170 --> 00:03:14.110
  • and I thought, yeah, that's people like Debbie.
  • 00:03:14.140 --> 00:03:17.080
  • [laughter]
  • 00:03:17.110 --> 00:03:20.070
  • The people who never jay-walked and you know,
  • 00:03:20.100 --> 00:03:22.140
  • never done anything.
  • 00:03:22.170 --> 00:03:24.030
  • You know, I was saved at 19, she was saved at 9.
  • 00:03:24.060 --> 00:03:26.280
  • I was delivered from drugs, she was delivered from bubblegum.
  • 00:03:27.010 --> 00:03:31.040
  • [laughter]
  • 00:03:31.070 --> 00:03:34.100
  • But, the next verse gave me some hope! Look.
  • 00:03:34.130 --> 00:03:39.000
  • "Whoever walks the road, although a fool,
  • 00:03:39.030 --> 00:03:42.100
  • shall not go astray."
  • 00:03:42.130 --> 00:03:43.260
  • Praise the Lord.
  • 00:03:43.290 --> 00:03:46.240
  • Praise the Lord, I got included!
  • 00:03:46.270 --> 00:03:48.110
  • [applause]
  • 00:03:48.140 --> 00:03:50.230
  • But here's what hit me:
  • 00:03:50.260 --> 00:03:53.200
  • that I did not get on the road because of my works.
  • 00:03:53.230 --> 00:04:01.220
  • There's A Way in the Wilderness, and that Way has a Name.
  • 00:04:01.250 --> 00:04:06.030
  • His name is Jesus.
  • 00:04:06.060 --> 00:04:08.050
  • I got on the road because of Him.
  • 00:04:08.080 --> 00:04:10.290
  • Remember, when you exegete the Scriptures,
  • 00:04:11.020 --> 00:04:14.260
  • when you pull truth out of Scripture,
  • 00:04:14.290 --> 00:04:16.240
  • it must be cohesive with the whole of Scripture,
  • 00:04:16.270 --> 00:04:19.210
  • and let me say it another way,
  • 00:04:19.240 --> 00:04:20.200
  • with the nature and character of God.
  • 00:04:20.230 --> 00:04:22.110
  • Our God's a God of grace, and so, when it says
  • 00:04:22.140 --> 00:04:25.240
  • "The unclean shall not pass over it,"
  • 00:04:25.270 --> 00:04:27.140
  • you need to understand something.
  • 00:04:27.170 --> 00:04:29.050
  • I'm clean now because of grace, because of grace!
  • 00:04:29.080 --> 00:04:34.070
  • So it's not that, you know, I had a good week
  • 00:04:34.100 --> 00:04:37.130
  • and so I'm in God's good graces.
  • 00:04:37.160 --> 00:04:40.180
  • I had a bad week, so I'm in God's bad graces.
  • 00:04:40.210 --> 00:04:43.160
  • Listen, there's no such thing as bad grace,
  • 00:04:43.190 --> 00:04:47.270
  • but only good grace.
  • 00:04:48.000 --> 00:04:49.240
  • So it doesn't matter what your performance was,
  • 00:04:49.270 --> 00:04:53.000
  • it matters what His performance was.
  • 00:04:53.030 --> 00:04:55.180
  • And so, we're on the road because of grace.
  • 00:04:55.210 --> 00:04:59.090
  • It is a street of grace, it's a highway of grace.
  • 00:04:59.120 --> 00:05:04.130
  • I want you to just think about when it says,
  • 00:05:04.160 --> 00:05:06.150
  • "The unclean shall not pass over it."
  • 00:05:06.180 --> 00:05:09.000
  • I have been made clean by the blood of Jesus,
  • 00:05:09.030 --> 00:05:14.010
  • so I get to walk on this road too.
  • 00:05:14.040 --> 00:05:16.040
  • I remember thinking, again when I read it, I thought,
  • 00:05:16.070 --> 00:05:19.070
  • well, Debbie can walk on it, but I have to walk beside it.
  • 00:05:19.100 --> 00:05:22.230
  • And I'll have to walk in the briars and all of that stuff,
  • 00:05:22.260 --> 00:05:25.170
  • but maybe I'll get to hold her hand, you know,
  • 00:05:25.200 --> 00:05:27.270
  • but I'm going in the right direction,
  • 00:05:28.000 --> 00:05:30.140
  • I'm going to heaven, but you know,
  • 00:05:30.170 --> 00:05:32.080
  • because of my past, I'm unclean.
  • 00:05:32.110 --> 00:05:34.230
  • No, I'm clean because of the blood of Jesus,
  • 00:05:34.260 --> 00:05:38.110
  • and so are you, no matter what your past is
  • 00:05:38.140 --> 00:05:40.140
  • and no matter what you did last night.
  • 00:05:40.170 --> 00:05:43.280
  • You're only clean because of the blood of Jesus,
  • 00:05:46.080 --> 00:05:49.080
  • not because of whether you did a good job or a bad job.
  • 00:05:49.110 --> 00:05:52.090
  • So, there's a really good picture of this
  • 00:05:52.120 --> 00:05:55.030
  • in the New Testament.
  • 00:05:55.060 --> 00:05:56.240
  • The Gentiles were considered unclean by the Jews,
  • 00:05:56.270 --> 00:06:01.280
  • and there's a Gentile named Cornelius who worshipped God
  • 00:06:02.010 --> 00:06:05.250
  • and gave alms to the poor, and he's crying out to God,
  • 00:06:05.280 --> 00:06:08.180
  • and so, God sends Peter to him in Acts 10.
  • 00:06:08.210 --> 00:06:11.040
  • This is when the gospel goes to the Gentiles.
  • 00:06:11.070 --> 00:06:14.210
  • But, Peter goes up on the rooftop to pray
  • 00:06:14.240 --> 00:06:17.260
  • and it says he actually fell into a trance.
  • 00:06:17.290 --> 00:06:20.190
  • And a sheet came down -- a sheet,
  • 00:06:20.220 --> 00:06:24.060
  • like a bedspread, a sheet, okay?
  • 00:06:24.090 --> 00:06:26.200
  • So, it sounded like "sheep" when I first said it,
  • 00:06:26.230 --> 00:06:29.040
  • but what you sleep in, okay, came down from heaven,
  • 00:06:29.070 --> 00:06:33.080
  • and it says it was full of unclean animals.
  • 00:06:33.110 --> 00:06:36.100
  • So, it was full of, you know, pigs, and shrimp, and lobster,
  • 00:06:36.130 --> 00:06:39.200
  • all of the things I like. [laughter]
  • 00:06:39.230 --> 00:06:43.120
  • And this voice said, "Rise, kill, and eat,"
  • 00:06:43.150 --> 00:06:47.050
  • and then that's where we pick up the story, Verse 14.
  • 00:06:47.080 --> 00:06:49.150
  • "But Peter said, "Not so, Lord!
  • 00:06:49.180 --> 00:06:51.130
  • For I have never eaten anything common or unclean."
  • 00:06:51.160 --> 00:06:57.060
  • Just notice the word "unclean."
  • 00:06:57.090 --> 00:06:59.040
  • "And a voice spoke to him again the second time,
  • 00:06:59.070 --> 00:07:01.180
  • "What God has cleansed you must not call common."
  • 00:07:01.210 --> 00:07:07.090
  • Or, we could say "unclean", because
  • 00:07:07.120 --> 00:07:09.280
  • if you look down then at Verse 28,
  • 00:07:10.010 --> 00:07:11.270
  • when he's explaining this to the Gentiles, he says,
  • 00:07:12.000 --> 00:07:14.060
  • "God has shown me that I should not call any man,"
  • 00:07:14.090 --> 00:07:17.180
  • or any person, "common or unclean."
  • 00:07:17.210 --> 00:07:22.020
  • And then in Acts 15 when they're having the council to decide
  • 00:07:22.050 --> 00:07:25.220
  • what to do with all of these Gentile believers now,
  • 00:07:25.250 --> 00:07:28.160
  • Peter says, Verse 8,
  • 00:07:28.190 --> 00:07:29.190
  • "So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them
  • 00:07:29.220 --> 00:07:33.030
  • by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us,
  • 00:07:33.060 --> 00:07:36.290
  • and made no distinction between us and them, purifying..."
  • 00:07:37.020 --> 00:07:41.000
  • -- now, I underlined it so I could come back to it --
  • 00:07:41.030 --> 00:07:42.290
  • "...purifying their hearts by faith."
  • 00:07:43.020 --> 00:07:45.080
  • That word, most of the time, is translated "cleansing".
  • 00:07:45.110 --> 00:07:50.240
  • He cleansed them just like He cleansed us,
  • 00:07:50.270 --> 00:07:54.010
  • so I'm telling you, we're cleansed.
  • 00:07:54.040 --> 00:07:56.050
  • So, this road, this Way in the wilderness, as I said,
  • 00:07:56.080 --> 00:08:01.120
  • has a Name, and His name is Jesus,
  • 00:08:01.150 --> 00:08:04.030
  • and you will remember it,
  • 00:08:04.060 --> 00:08:06.110
  • because Jesus actually told us that.
  • 00:08:06.140 --> 00:08:09.060
  • In John 14, when He's telling His disciples He's going away,
  • 00:08:09.090 --> 00:08:13.170
  • He says in Verse 4, "And where I go
  • 00:08:13.200 --> 00:08:17.020
  • you know, and the way you know."
  • 00:08:17.050 --> 00:08:22.220
  • Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we don't know
  • 00:08:22.250 --> 00:08:24.130
  • where You're going, and how can we know the way?"
  • 00:08:24.160 --> 00:08:27.230
  • Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
  • 00:08:27.260 --> 00:08:32.230
  • No one comes to the Father except through Me."
  • 00:08:32.260 --> 00:08:33.280
  • But, "I am the Way", -- by the way,
  • 00:08:34.010 --> 00:08:35.190
  • did you know that the church, before they were called
  • 00:08:35.220 --> 00:08:37.000
  • "Christians", do you know they were called "the way?"
  • 00:08:37.030 --> 00:08:43.140
  • Five times in the Book of Acts,
  • 00:08:43.170 --> 00:08:45.270
  • the church was called "the way", Jesus is the Way.
  • 00:08:46.000 --> 00:08:49.190
  • Now, again let me say it's because of grace, okay?
  • 00:08:49.220 --> 00:08:52.210
  • So, Debbie gets saved when she's nine.
  • 00:08:52.240 --> 00:08:56.080
  • I start trying to straighten my life up
  • 00:08:56.110 --> 00:08:58.100
  • when I'm 16, and then we start dating.
  • 00:08:58.130 --> 00:09:01.010
  • We get married when I'm 18, but I'm not saved yet.
  • 00:09:01.040 --> 00:09:06.040
  • I get saved nine months later, and I saw a genuineness in her,
  • 00:09:06.070 --> 00:09:11.120
  • even though I had grown up in church,
  • 00:09:11.150 --> 00:09:13.010
  • but when I got saved, it was radical,
  • 00:09:13.040 --> 00:09:16.070
  • because I had been involved in a lot of sin.
  • 00:09:16.100 --> 00:09:19.070
  • Well, she actually started doubting her salvation.
  • 00:09:19.100 --> 00:09:23.000
  • She started thinking, I don't remember that.
  • 00:09:23.030 --> 00:09:25.150
  • I didn't have that type of conversion that Robert did,
  • 00:09:25.180 --> 00:09:30.040
  • and so, Lord, I need You to show me.
  • 00:09:30.070 --> 00:09:33.020
  • And she literally -- she didn't mean it in a wrong way,
  • 00:09:33.050 --> 00:09:36.060
  • but she said, you know, I wasn't this
  • 00:09:36.090 --> 00:09:38.230
  • big, bad sinner like he was.
  • 00:09:38.260 --> 00:09:42.010
  • She might have said 'like he is',
  • 00:09:42.040 --> 00:09:43.030
  • I don't know, but like he was,
  • 00:09:43.060 --> 00:09:45.280
  • and then just radically get saved in a motel room.
  • 00:09:46.010 --> 00:09:49.060
  • You know, I wasn't in church when I got saved.
  • 00:09:49.090 --> 00:09:50.210
  • I don't know if y'all know that, and you don't have to be
  • 00:09:50.240 --> 00:09:53.070
  • in church when you get saved, you know?
  • 00:09:53.100 --> 00:09:54.200
  • You're not going to die in a funeral home.
  • 00:09:54.230 --> 00:09:56.020
  • It's convenient, but it probably won't -- so, anyway --
  • 00:09:56.050 --> 00:09:59.090
  • [laughter]
  • 00:09:59.120 --> 00:10:04.160
  • So, I wasn't in church when I got saved;
  • 00:10:04.190 --> 00:10:06.180
  • I was in a motel room.
  • 00:10:06.210 --> 00:10:08.200
  • But I got radically saved, and so she started, you know,
  • 00:10:08.230 --> 00:10:12.110
  • just kind of saying, Lord, I need You to show me,
  • 00:10:12.140 --> 00:10:16.060
  • because this is a radical change in him
  • 00:10:16.090 --> 00:10:18.040
  • and I don't remember that radical of a change in me.
  • 00:10:18.070 --> 00:10:22.060
  • So, one day in worship she had a vision.
  • 00:10:22.090 --> 00:10:26.130
  • Now again, she didn't lose consciousness,
  • 00:10:26.160 --> 00:10:29.260
  • she just saw a picture in her mind, okay?
  • 00:10:29.290 --> 00:10:32.010
  • And God does that, it's all through Scripture.
  • 00:10:32.040 --> 00:10:34.250
  • But, here's what she saw: she saw herself
  • 00:10:34.280 --> 00:10:36.280
  • in a white wedding dress, and she saw Jesus,
  • 00:10:37.010 --> 00:10:41.080
  • and she knew this is the marriage supper of the Lamb.
  • 00:10:41.110 --> 00:10:43.070
  • I'm the bride, and the Bible says we're the bride of Christ,
  • 00:10:43.100 --> 00:10:46.180
  • and she was going to see her groom,
  • 00:10:46.210 --> 00:10:50.100
  • and she started running toward Him,
  • 00:10:50.130 --> 00:10:53.090
  • and she fell in a mud puddle,
  • 00:10:53.120 --> 00:10:57.060
  • and she said she was covered with mud.
  • 00:10:57.090 --> 00:11:00.090
  • There wasn't one part of her dress that was still white.
  • 00:11:00.120 --> 00:11:03.030
  • And she was on all fours in this mud puddle,
  • 00:11:03.060 --> 00:11:06.160
  • and she realized how dirty she was
  • 00:11:06.190 --> 00:11:10.140
  • in the presence of Jesus.
  • 00:11:10.170 --> 00:11:13.220
  • And she said, "I started remembering
  • 00:11:13.250 --> 00:11:17.010
  • attitudes I had growing up, and rebellion --
  • 00:11:17.040 --> 00:11:22.170
  • secret, like, private rebellion;
  • 00:11:22.200 --> 00:11:24.190
  • being mad at my parents for something,
  • 00:11:24.220 --> 00:11:26.110
  • or being mad at someone in school, or unforgiveness."
  • 00:11:26.140 --> 00:11:30.100
  • See, I was involved in a lot of sins of the flesh.
  • 00:11:30.130 --> 00:11:35.170
  • She was remembering sins of the heart.
  • 00:11:35.200 --> 00:11:38.150
  • But, what's the difference?
  • 00:11:38.180 --> 00:11:40.140
  • You know, Jesus came and He spoke to the prostitutes
  • 00:11:40.170 --> 00:11:43.020
  • who had sins of the flesh, and He spoke to the Pharisees
  • 00:11:43.050 --> 00:11:45.180
  • who had sins of the heart, and He didn't make
  • 00:11:45.210 --> 00:11:47.150
  • any distinction between them.
  • 00:11:47.180 --> 00:11:49.170
  • Okay, so, she just saw all of this, you know,
  • 00:11:49.200 --> 00:11:54.020
  • and she just wept because she was so filthy
  • 00:11:54.050 --> 00:11:57.090
  • in the sight, in the presence of Jesus.
  • 00:11:57.120 --> 00:11:59.210
  • And all of a sudden, in the mud puddle,
  • 00:11:59.240 --> 00:12:03.220
  • she saw a foot in like a sandal, and it had a nail print in it,
  • 00:12:03.250 --> 00:12:10.120
  • but it was standing on top of the mud
  • 00:12:10.150 --> 00:12:12.060
  • and it wasn't muddy.
  • 00:12:12.090 --> 00:12:14.140
  • And then she saw a hand reach down with a nail print.
  • 00:12:14.170 --> 00:12:18.040
  • She put her hand in His hand, and the mud
  • 00:12:18.070 --> 00:12:23.070
  • just began to go off of her.
  • 00:12:23.100 --> 00:12:26.090
  • And He lifted her up, and as He lifted her up,
  • 00:12:26.120 --> 00:12:30.080
  • she became completely clean again and she knew she would
  • 00:12:30.110 --> 00:12:35.170
  • been forgiven for everything she would ever done.
  • 00:12:35.200 --> 00:12:39.020
  • And the mud puddle became gold, like a street of gold,
  • 00:12:39.050 --> 00:12:42.220
  • and they danced like a groom and a bride at a wedding.
  • 00:12:42.250 --> 00:12:47.000
  • But she realized, even though Robert did all of those things,
  • 00:12:47.030 --> 00:12:50.160
  • I was still in need of a Savior, too, I was a sinner, too.
  • 00:12:50.190 --> 00:12:55.010
  • So, she's telling me about this later on,
  • 00:12:55.040 --> 00:12:57.200
  • and then she said, "He even brought something to my mind
  • 00:12:57.230 --> 00:13:00.280
  • that I had forgotten, something horrible that I did
  • 00:13:01.010 --> 00:13:04.110
  • as a young person that I have been ashamed of ever since."
  • 00:13:04.140 --> 00:13:09.050
  • Okay, now you've got to remember something: Debbie is a saint.
  • 00:13:09.080 --> 00:13:16.040
  • So when she said He brought something to my mind,
  • 00:13:16.070 --> 00:13:18.010
  • something horrible I would done, something I've been ashamed of
  • 00:13:18.040 --> 00:13:20.110
  • my whole life, I said, "What?"
  • 00:13:20.140 --> 00:13:23.200
  • Now, the reason is I wanted to know if she was human.
  • 00:13:23.230 --> 00:13:29.190
  • [laughter]
  • 00:13:29.220 --> 00:13:34.160
  • And so, it wasn't like I was going to find out
  • 00:13:34.190 --> 00:13:37.050
  • something horrible and then get mad at her,
  • 00:13:37.080 --> 00:13:39.160
  • I just wanted to know -- you've done something
  • 00:13:39.190 --> 00:13:41.290
  • you're ashamed of?
  • 00:13:42.020 --> 00:13:43.050
  • You know, I've never heard this in my life, you know?
  • 00:13:43.080 --> 00:13:44.220
  • So, tell me, tell me!
  • 00:13:44.250 --> 00:13:46.260
  • So, she said, "Well, you remember,
  • 00:13:46.290 --> 00:13:48.280
  • when we were growing up, everyone had
  • 00:13:49.010 --> 00:13:50.110
  • a 3-ring notebook, and sometimes
  • 00:13:50.140 --> 00:13:53.280
  • one of the holes in your paper, would tear.
  • 00:13:54.010 --> 00:13:57.250
  • And at the store back then, they had these little white circles,"
  • 00:13:57.280 --> 00:14:03.070
  • some of you remember this, "and you could put it
  • 00:14:03.100 --> 00:14:05.140
  • on your paper and repair that hole."
  • 00:14:05.170 --> 00:14:08.120
  • And she had one hole on one of her pieces of paper.
  • 00:14:08.150 --> 00:14:14.100
  • One hole on one piece of paper, and she wanted
  • 00:14:14.130 --> 00:14:17.240
  • to get one of those.
  • 00:14:17.270 --> 00:14:18.290
  • So, she's at the store, she asked her mom,
  • 00:14:19.020 --> 00:14:23.000
  • can we buy these,
  • 00:14:23.030 --> 00:14:24.100
  • and it was a package, you know, of 20, or 30, or 50 of them,
  • 00:14:24.130 --> 00:14:27.050
  • and she only needed one, you know?
  • 00:14:27.080 --> 00:14:29.030
  • And, her mom said, "No, we could just put tape on it
  • 00:14:29.060 --> 00:14:31.280
  • when we get home."
  • 00:14:32.010 --> 00:14:33.070
  • Did any of you, you know, grow up with, okay, tape instead?
  • 00:14:33.100 --> 00:14:36.230
  • Alright, So she said, "Well, just put some tape on it
  • 00:14:36.260 --> 00:14:40.100
  • and it will be fine."
  • 00:14:40.130 --> 00:14:41.130
  • But she said, "When my mother wasn't looking,"
  • 00:14:41.160 --> 00:14:43.100
  • now, she's telling me this and she's crying.
  • 00:14:43.130 --> 00:14:48.110
  • [laughter]
  • 00:14:48.140 --> 00:14:51.150
  • And she said, "And when my mother wasn't looking,
  • 00:14:51.180 --> 00:14:53.260
  • I opened the package and I took one of them out,
  • 00:14:53.290 --> 00:14:57.250
  • and I've been ashamed of that my whole life."
  • 00:14:57.280 --> 00:15:00.080
  • [laughter]
  • 00:15:00.110 --> 00:15:07.200
  • And I said to her, "That's what you've been
  • 00:15:07.230 --> 00:15:10.250
  • ashamed of your whole life?
  • 00:15:10.280 --> 00:15:17.050
  • That doesn't make me feel any better at all!"
  • 00:15:17.080 --> 00:15:20.200
  • [laughter]
  • 00:15:20.230 --> 00:15:22.240
  • I was waiting for this -- matter of fact,
  • 00:15:22.270 --> 00:15:27.020
  • it makes me feel worse for my life,
  • 00:15:27.050 --> 00:15:29.280
  • that that's the worst thing you ever did was you stole
  • 00:15:30.010 --> 00:15:32.270
  • one little 29-cent --
  • 00:15:33.000 --> 00:15:34.180
  • and it's not even 29 -- 2.9 cent thing from Wal-mart?
  • 00:15:34.210 --> 00:15:39.160
  • So anyway, grace covered her sin, too,
  • 00:15:39.190 --> 00:15:44.100
  • she was a big, bad sinner too.
  • 00:15:44.130 --> 00:15:46.040
  • She was a kleptomaniac, so, all right.
  • 00:15:46.070 --> 00:15:48.120
  • [laughter]
  • 00:15:48.150 --> 00:15:50.080
  • It's a street of grace; it's also a street of safety.
  • 00:15:50.110 --> 00:15:54.290
  • Verse 9, "No lion shall be there."
  • 00:15:55.020 --> 00:15:58.140
  • Obviously it's not talking about the lion of Judah,
  • 00:15:58.170 --> 00:16:00.140
  • it's talking about the roaring lion.
  • 00:16:00.170 --> 00:16:02.000
  • "Nor shall any ravenous beasts," see the context?
  • 00:16:02.030 --> 00:16:05.180
  • "Go up on it; it shall not be found there,
  • 00:16:05.210 --> 00:16:07.150
  • but the redeemed shall walk there."
  • 00:16:07.180 --> 00:16:09.270
  • Psalm 91:13, "You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
  • 00:16:10.000 --> 00:16:15.030
  • the young lion and the serpent you shall
  • 00:16:15.060 --> 00:16:16.200
  • trample under your foot."
  • 00:16:16.230 --> 00:16:17.220
  • Jesus backs it up in the New Testament.
  • 00:16:17.250 --> 00:16:19.230
  • Luke 10:19, "Behold, I give you authority to trample
  • 00:16:19.260 --> 00:16:22.130
  • on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy,
  • 00:16:22.160 --> 00:16:26.230
  • and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
  • 00:16:26.260 --> 00:16:30.080
  • So, no lion, no ravenous beast is on this road.
  • 00:16:30.110 --> 00:16:37.100
  • But, let me say something very clearly.
  • 00:16:37.130 --> 00:16:40.160
  • Don't wander off the road.
  • 00:16:40.190 --> 00:16:45.020
  • Now, I'm not talking about saved, lost, saved, lost,
  • 00:16:45.050 --> 00:16:47.020
  • saved, lost, because we get to heaven by grace.
  • 00:16:47.050 --> 00:16:50.260
  • But even as Christians, we can see something and wander off
  • 00:16:50.290 --> 00:16:54.290
  • the road, and when you get off the road,
  • 00:16:55.020 --> 00:16:57.020
  • you're in Satan's territory.
  • 00:16:57.050 --> 00:16:59.270
  • You start looking at something on the internet
  • 00:17:00.020 --> 00:17:01.190
  • that you shouldn't look at, you get into his territory.
  • 00:17:01.220 --> 00:17:05.100
  • If you start flirting with someone,
  • 00:17:05.130 --> 00:17:07.250
  • and you're married and you start flirting with someone else,
  • 00:17:07.280 --> 00:17:09.160
  • you're in his territory.
  • 00:17:09.190 --> 00:17:11.220
  • If you start going to the bars and drinking too much,
  • 00:17:11.250 --> 00:17:15.050
  • you're in his territory, you follow me?
  • 00:17:15.080 --> 00:17:17.280
  • Don't get off the road, because the lion's right off the road,
  • 00:17:18.010 --> 00:17:21.230
  • because here's what the Bible tells us:
  • 00:17:21.260 --> 00:17:23.210
  • you would better beware, because your adversary
  • 00:17:23.240 --> 00:17:26.090
  • is like a roaring lion, roaming about seeking
  • 00:17:26.120 --> 00:17:29.070
  • whom he may devour.
  • 00:17:29.100 --> 00:17:31.050
  • He's right off the road, but he can't get on the road.
  • 00:17:31.080 --> 00:17:36.020
  • That's what the Bible tells us, he can't get on the road.
  • 00:17:36.050 --> 00:17:38.210
  • But, we live in a fallen world.
  • 00:17:38.240 --> 00:17:40.140
  • That doesn't mean that we don't get attacked or tempted
  • 00:17:40.170 --> 00:17:43.250
  • by the enemy, and in fact, think about this.
  • 00:17:43.280 --> 00:17:46.140
  • He attacked Jesus Himself.
  • 00:17:46.170 --> 00:17:49.250
  • I remember being in a church one time, and the pastor said,
  • 00:17:49.280 --> 00:17:53.210
  • "There's a couple here.
  • 00:17:53.240 --> 00:17:55.100
  • They're upset because their son is, like nine years old,
  • 00:17:55.130 --> 00:18:02.110
  • and he is saying that he hears Satan,
  • 00:18:02.140 --> 00:18:05.110
  • that Satan's talking to him.
  • 00:18:05.140 --> 00:18:07.090
  • And, I don't know what to tell them."
  • 00:18:07.120 --> 00:18:10.210
  • And I said, "Well, could I talk to them and their little boy?"
  • 00:18:10.240 --> 00:18:13.250
  • And they said yes. So I said to the little boy, I said --
  • 00:18:13.280 --> 00:18:16.040
  • so, I talked to him for a while about sports or something,
  • 00:18:16.070 --> 00:18:19.190
  • and then I said, "So, I heard that you can hear
  • 00:18:19.220 --> 00:18:24.120
  • that Satan's talking to you," and he said, "Yes."
  • 00:18:24.150 --> 00:18:27.280
  • And I said, "Man, you must be a great guy
  • 00:18:28.010 --> 00:18:32.210
  • with a great destiny on your life."
  • 00:18:32.240 --> 00:18:35.100
  • And he said, "Why would you say that?"
  • 00:18:35.130 --> 00:18:39.220
  • I said, "Well, because Satan talked to Jesus, didn't he?
  • 00:18:39.250 --> 00:18:46.180
  • He talked to Jesus. Jesus wasn't a bad person,
  • 00:18:46.210 --> 00:18:49.290
  • and He had a great destiny on His life."
  • 00:18:50.020 --> 00:18:52.160
  • And I remember this boy's face just brightened up.
  • 00:18:52.190 --> 00:18:55.010
  • So, Satan can still attack you,
  • 00:18:55.040 --> 00:18:57.130
  • but that's why we do spiritual warfare.
  • 00:18:57.160 --> 00:19:00.100
  • That's why we pray every day in the daily prayer,
  • 00:19:00.130 --> 00:19:02.160
  • "Deliver us from evil today."
  • 00:19:02.190 --> 00:19:04.150
  • So, just because it says no lions shall be on this road,
  • 00:19:04.180 --> 00:19:08.180
  • don't think that you're never going to get tempted
  • 00:19:08.210 --> 00:19:10.110
  • in this life, because we live in a fallen world.
  • 00:19:10.140 --> 00:19:12.260
  • So, it's a road of safety, and here's the third thing,
  • 00:19:12.290 --> 00:19:14.250
  • it's a street of joy.
  • 00:19:14.280 --> 00:19:17.250
  • Now, Isaiah 35:10 says, "The ransomed of the Lord
  • 00:19:17.280 --> 00:19:21.030
  • shall return, and come to Zion with singing,
  • 00:19:21.060 --> 00:19:23.130
  • with everlasting joy on their heads.
  • 00:19:23.160 --> 00:19:25.080
  • They shall obtain joy and gladness,
  • 00:19:25.110 --> 00:19:26.290
  • and sorrow and sighing shall flee away."
  • 00:19:27.020 --> 00:19:29.120
  • That might be familiar to some of you,
  • 00:19:29.150 --> 00:19:33.030
  • it depends on your age.
  • 00:19:33.060 --> 00:19:35.150
  • This is in another place in Isaiah,
  • 00:19:35.180 --> 00:19:38.130
  • but let me read it to you in the Old King James,
  • 00:19:38.160 --> 00:19:41.180
  • Isaiah 51:11 says, "Therefore, the redeemed of the Lord
  • 00:19:41.210 --> 00:19:45.200
  • shall return, and come with singing unto Zion."
  • 00:19:45.230 --> 00:19:51.170
  • Any of you remember this? This was a worship song.
  • 00:19:51.200 --> 00:19:57.020
  • "And everlasting joy shall be upon their head;
  • 00:19:57.050 --> 00:19:59.060
  • they shall obtain gladness and joy;
  • 00:19:59.090 --> 00:20:01.180
  • and sorrow and mourning shall flee away"
  • 00:20:01.210 --> 00:20:03.000
  • They're going to come with singing, everlasting joy.
  • 00:20:03.030 --> 00:20:06.150
  • How long is everlasting?
  • 00:20:06.180 --> 00:20:08.080
  • Remember grace, salvation, is everlasting life.
  • 00:20:08.110 --> 00:20:13.030
  • And, I love the Old King James says, "Sorrow and mourning
  • 00:20:13.060 --> 00:20:18.240
  • shall flee away," and I wanted to say that
  • 00:20:18.270 --> 00:20:21.180
  • because I feel like that's for some of you here.
  • 00:20:21.210 --> 00:20:25.120
  • Mourning attacks you, like, I got attacked
  • 00:20:25.150 --> 00:20:27.290
  • with fear every year.
  • 00:20:28.020 --> 00:20:29.110
  • You've lost someone, and you might get attacked
  • 00:20:29.140 --> 00:20:31.070
  • every year with mourning.
  • 00:20:31.100 --> 00:20:35.220
  • And I just want you to know, because of Jesus --
  • 00:20:35.250 --> 00:20:39.150
  • it's okay to miss a person.
  • 00:20:39.180 --> 00:20:40.140
  • That's okay, because it says we grieve.
  • 00:20:40.170 --> 00:20:43.130
  • This is what it says in the Bible --
  • 00:20:43.160 --> 00:20:45.050
  • we don't grieve as those who have no hope.
  • 00:20:45.080 --> 00:20:49.010
  • But we do grieve, but just not as those who have no hope.
  • 00:20:49.040 --> 00:20:53.120
  • So, you don't have to mourn, so that can pass away.
  • 00:20:53.150 --> 00:20:57.240
  • I can sing because I've been cleansed.
  • 00:20:57.270 --> 00:21:01.130
  • So, I was just looking, you know how I love words.
  • 00:21:01.160 --> 00:21:04.080
  • I was looking at the word "cleansing",
  • 00:21:04.110 --> 00:21:05.180
  • look at the word "cleansing," now, when I looked at it --
  • 00:21:05.210 --> 00:21:09.000
  • now, this isn't how it breaks down, grammatically.
  • 00:21:09.030 --> 00:21:11.000
  • I understand that, but, I just saw the two words.
  • 00:21:11.030 --> 00:21:13.190
  • Look, "clean", "sing" clean-sing.
  • 00:21:13.220 --> 00:21:19.260
  • And so, then I added some punctuation
  • 00:21:19.290 --> 00:21:22.040
  • and I did it like this.
  • 00:21:22.070 --> 00:21:23.100
  • Are you clean? Then sing. [laughter]
  • 00:21:23.130 --> 00:21:28.240
  • If you're clean by grace, sing; you can rejoice.
  • 00:21:28.270 --> 00:21:34.040
  • But, why don't people rejoice?
  • 00:21:34.070 --> 00:21:37.190
  • So, this is the last thing I'm going to share
  • 00:21:37.220 --> 00:21:38.250
  • with you, alright?
  • 00:21:38.280 --> 00:21:40.000
  • In Luke 15, there's the story of the Prodigal Son,
  • 00:21:40.030 --> 00:21:44.160
  • but there are three stories in Luke 15.
  • 00:21:44.190 --> 00:21:47.100
  • There's a shepherd who had a hundred sheep
  • 00:21:47.130 --> 00:21:49.020
  • and lost one, right?
  • 00:21:49.050 --> 00:21:51.040
  • Left the 99 and went and found that 1.
  • 00:21:51.070 --> 00:21:53.090
  • There's a women who had ten coins, lost one,
  • 00:21:53.120 --> 00:21:56.230
  • went and found that one.
  • 00:21:56.260 --> 00:21:57.280
  • There's the father that had two sons and lost one,
  • 00:21:58.010 --> 00:22:00.030
  • and found that one, okay?
  • 00:22:00.060 --> 00:22:01.190
  • The son comes home, but he says he's now found.
  • 00:22:01.220 --> 00:22:04.040
  • Let me just read it and then I'm going to ask you
  • 00:22:04.070 --> 00:22:06.180
  • the question, I'll go ahead and tell you
  • 00:22:06.210 --> 00:22:07.180
  • the question: What's the first thing
  • 00:22:07.210 --> 00:22:10.160
  • that each of them did when they found
  • 00:22:10.190 --> 00:22:11.220
  • what they were looking for?
  • 00:22:11.250 --> 00:22:14.160
  • Luke 15:6, "And when he comes home," this is the shepherd,
  • 00:22:14.190 --> 00:22:18.220
  • "he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them,
  • 00:22:18.250 --> 00:22:21.070
  • "Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!"
  • 00:22:21.100 --> 00:22:27.080
  • The woman with the coin, Verse 9, "And when she has found it,
  • 00:22:27.110 --> 00:22:30.050
  • she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying,
  • 00:22:30.080 --> 00:22:32.030
  • "Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!"
  • 00:22:32.060 --> 00:22:36.130
  • Luke 15:23-24, the father said, "Bring the fatted calf here
  • 00:22:36.160 --> 00:22:40.280
  • and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;
  • 00:22:41.010 --> 00:22:43.030
  • for this my son was dead and is alive;
  • 00:22:43.060 --> 00:22:45.110
  • he was lost and is found."
  • 00:22:45.140 --> 00:22:46.270
  • So, what's the first thing they did when
  • 00:22:47.000 --> 00:22:48.020
  • they found what they were looking for?
  • 00:22:48.050 --> 00:22:49.230
  • Rejoice -- Okay, no, that's not right.
  • 00:22:49.260 --> 00:22:53.150
  • The first thing they did was they stopped looking for it.
  • 00:22:53.180 --> 00:23:00.160
  • You never find something and keep looking for it, right?
  • 00:23:00.190 --> 00:23:05.030
  • In other words, have you ever made this statement?
  • 00:23:05.060 --> 00:23:07.250
  • I know it will be in the last place I look.
  • 00:23:07.280 --> 00:23:10.180
  • [laughter] Of course it will!
  • 00:23:10.210 --> 00:23:22.230
  • You never find it and keep looking, right?
  • 00:23:22.260 --> 00:23:26.280
  • Why am I saying this?
  • 00:23:27.010 --> 00:23:29.220
  • Because you were born looking for love,
  • 00:23:29.250 --> 00:23:35.070
  • looking for forgiveness, looking for acceptance.
  • 00:23:35.100 --> 00:23:39.200
  • And what I need to tell you and you need to hear in your spirit,
  • 00:23:39.230 --> 00:23:44.150
  • you've found it, you can stop looking for it,
  • 00:23:44.180 --> 00:23:47.210
  • and now there's only one thing to do, and that's rejoice!
  • 00:23:47.240 --> 00:23:51.170
  • [applause]
  • 00:23:51.200 --> 00:24:00.020
  • You don't have to keep looking for it, because you don't find
  • 00:24:00.050 --> 00:24:02.060
  • favor with God by works; you find favor with God
  • 00:24:02.090 --> 00:24:08.210
  • by receiving the Way in the Wilderness
  • 00:24:08.240 --> 00:24:12.090
  • whose Name is Jesus Christ.
  • 00:24:12.120 --> 00:24:13.160
  • ROBERT: Because Jesus has come,
  • 00:24:14.190 --> 00:24:17.040
  • we are now walking on streets of grace.
  • 00:24:17.070 --> 00:24:21.030
  • The Bible calls it, "a highway of holiness",
  • 00:24:21.060 --> 00:24:24.070
  • but it's not a highway of holiness because
  • 00:24:24.100 --> 00:24:26.010
  • we everything right or because we're perfect,
  • 00:24:26.040 --> 00:24:28.180
  • because we're not perfect.
  • 00:24:28.210 --> 00:24:30.070
  • It's a highway of holiness because we've been set apart,
  • 00:24:30.100 --> 00:24:35.010
  • by the blood of Jesus.
  • 00:24:35.040 --> 00:24:37.240
  • I want to remind you of that; it's Jesus' blood
  • 00:24:37.270 --> 00:24:41.050
  • that cleanses all of your sin.
  • 00:24:41.080 --> 00:24:43.110
  • It's not Jesus' blood that helps you be perfect,
  • 00:24:43.140 --> 00:24:47.080
  • because none of us is perfect, but Jesus' blood cleanses us
  • 00:24:47.110 --> 00:24:52.160
  • from all of our mistakes, everything we've done.
  • 00:24:52.190 --> 00:24:56.110
  • You might be like my wife, and you didn't do much wrong,
  • 00:24:56.140 --> 00:24:59.190
  • but you know you've done things wrong.
  • 00:24:59.220 --> 00:25:01.120
  • You might be like me, and you know you've done a lot of
  • 00:25:01.150 --> 00:25:03.260
  • things wrong, but the same blood that saved my wife,
  • 00:25:03.290 --> 00:25:08.190
  • saved me, and saved you.
  • 00:25:08.220 --> 00:25:11.070
  • And I'm so grateful that the Messiah came
  • 00:25:11.100 --> 00:25:14.010
  • and made a Way in the Wilderness.
  • 00:25:14.040 --> 00:25:17.090
  • I love you guys, so much.
  • 00:25:17.120 --> 00:25:19.010
  • I'll see you next time.
  • 00:25:19.040 --> 00:25:20.150
  • ANNOUNCER: We're so glad you joined us for today's program
  • 00:25:22.040 --> 00:25:24.190
  • as Pastor Robert shares a message from his series,
  • 00:25:24.220 --> 00:25:27.140
  • "A Way in the Wilderness."
  • 00:25:27.170 --> 00:25:29.060
  • Taken from the book of Isaiah, Pastor Robert explains
  • 00:25:29.090 --> 00:25:32.050
  • how God's people forfeited His protection and blessings
  • 00:25:32.080 --> 00:25:35.250
  • when they forgot about Him and went their own way.
  • 00:25:35.280 --> 00:25:38.080
  • Isaiah prophesied the arrival of a Messiah
  • 00:25:38.110 --> 00:25:41.100
  • who would make a way in the wilderness,
  • 00:25:41.130 --> 00:25:43.120
  • and bring a dry, barren, and desolate land
  • 00:25:43.150 --> 00:25:46.010
  • back to life again.
  • 00:25:46.040 --> 00:25:47.190
  • Pastor Robert shows us how Jesus is the fulfillment
  • 00:25:47.220 --> 00:25:50.140
  • of Isaiah's prophecies about the coming Messiah;
  • 00:25:50.170 --> 00:25:53.060
  • and because we have placed our hope and trust in Jesus,
  • 00:25:53.090 --> 00:25:55.290
  • He transforms our wilderness into a lush garden
  • 00:25:56.020 --> 00:25:58.250
  • overflowing with abundance.
  • 00:25:58.280 --> 00:26:00.290

  • We'll send it you on CD or as digital download

  • of Pastor Robert Morris Ministries.
  • 00:26:46.250 --> 00:26:49.220
  • 00:26:50.190 --> 00:26:59.140
  • [vibrating and ringing]
  • 00:27:00.090 --> 00:27:01.150
  • One day, you wake up asking yourself:
  • 00:27:01.180 --> 00:27:03.230
  • WOMAN: When will it ever end?
  • 00:27:03.260 --> 00:27:05.100
  • [crashing] No-no-no-no!
  • 00:27:05.130 --> 00:27:07.000
  • It's due, when?!
  • 00:27:08.050 --> 00:27:09.090
  • No! No-no-no-no--!
  • 00:27:11.040 --> 00:27:14.030
  • [squeaking in distress]
  • 00:27:14.060 --> 00:27:14.260
  • [clock ticking]
  • 00:27:14.290 --> 00:27:15.290
  • [snoring]
  • 00:27:16.020 --> 00:27:17.170
  • Our fourth-quarter --
  • 00:27:17.200 --> 00:27:18.180
  • CHILD: He followed me home, can I keep him?
  • 00:27:18.210 --> 00:27:20.070
  • WOMAN: So, when does it all end?
  • 00:27:20.290 --> 00:27:22.200
  • I discovered it can end every week.
  • 00:27:22.230 --> 00:27:25.270
  • MAN: Hey, tomorrow's our day off.
  • 00:27:26.160 --> 00:27:28.270
